In the last few years we have been hearing about all the new technology that is being offered in new cars. It seems that every new model has some new amazing gadget that make the driving experience either safer, or more enjoyable. So, what about motorcycles? Well the technology wave has not neglected the motorcycle industry and the new models can show you.
A big technological improvement is one that is not seen. More new motorcycle are now being offered with electronic throttle control, also known as ride-by-wire. With ride-by-wire a rider is no longer directly controlling the throttle through a directly connected cable but through a computerized link. According to the manufacturers this provides far greater control over the engine, which makes for a far smoother riding experience. Along with a better ride, manufacturers can now include riding modes like “Eco” and “Sport” which lead to better performance and fuel economy.
Adaptive headlights are making riding at night a little safer. According to the American Automobile Association, adaptive headlights have the potential to provide up to a 90 percent safety benefit to 90 percent of crashes that occur on curves at night. Good news for night riders.
Helmets are also using new technology improvements. Until now, motorcycle riders couldn’t make much use of things like phones and GPS navigation. That is now changing thanks to advancements in AR, or Augmented Reality and voice recognition. Now a rider can wear a futuristic helmet that allows them to place phone calls, use GPS navigation and listen to music hands free. There is even a helmet called the AR-1 made by Skully that feature a rear facing camera that projects a live feed onto the rider’s field of view.
Technology is making leaps and bounds in the automotive industry. Now we can look forward to seeing more technology directed at the motorcycle industry.
